What Is the GRE?

The Exam That Unlocks Master's & PhD Programs Worldwide

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test required for admission into many Master's and PhD programs in the USA and other international universities. A strong GRE score significantly improves your chances of admission and makes you more competitive for scholarships, assistantships, and funding opportunities.

The GRE evaluates your ability to think critically, analyze information, and solve advanced academic problems. It is commonly required for graduate programs in business, engineering, science, public health, economics, and many other fields.

Why Choose PrepRoom GRE Classes

How We Prepare You for the GRE

We don't just cover the content — we build the skills, strategies, and confidence you need to score competitively.

We Start with the Basics

Every student starts with a diagnostic to identify their current level. We build from the ground up — covering vocabulary, reading strategies, arithmetic, and essay structure before advancing to harder material.

We Drill with Past Questions

We use real GRE past questions and official ETS practice tests from day one. Students learn to recognize question patterns, manage time, and build accuracy — the same skills needed on test day.

We Cover Analytical Writing

The writing section is often overlooked — not here. Our tutors teach you how to structure Issue and Argument essays clearly and score well on the 0–6 writing scale that many programs review closely.

Convenient Online Format

Live weekday Zoom classes so you can join from anywhere in Ghana without disrupting your schedule. Saturday in-person sessions at our Tema centre for additional support and full mock testing.

99th Percentile Tutors

Our instructors have scored in the top 1% of GRE takers. They know every question type, every trap, and every shortcut — and they pass that knowledge directly to you in every session.

Consistent Score Improvement

Students who commit to our programme consistently see their scores improve. We track your progress across all three sections and adjust your study plan to target your weakest areas.

Important: QA PrepRoom does not administer the GRE exam. Our classes prepare you for the official GRE, which is administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service) at approved test centers worldwide. When you enroll with us, our team will personally guide you through everything you need to know about sitting the exam.

Understanding Your Score

What Is a Good GRE Score?

The GRE is scored on a 260–340 scale (Verbal + Quantitative combined), plus a separate 0–6 Analytical Writing score. Here's what different ranges mean for your graduate program options.

300+  ·  Competitive
315+  ·  Strong
325+  ·  Highly Competitive

Score expectations vary by program and university. 300+ qualifies for many programs abroad. 315+ opens doors to top-tier programs and funding opportunities. 325+ is ideal for competitive programs in business, engineering, and public health.

Analytical Writing0–6

Total test time: approximately 1 hour 58 minutes. Computer-based exam at official ETS centers.

About the Official GRE Exam

Official GRE Exam
Administered by ETS

The GRE is a standardized exam developed and administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service) — an independent organization based in the United States. The exam can be taken multiple times throughout the year at approved test centers worldwide, including locations in Ghana and across West Africa. Students who are ready to sit the exam can do so at a time that fits their preparation schedule and application deadlines.

GRE Test Dates

The GRE is offered year-round at official ETS testing centers. You can select your preferred test date based on availability and your graduate school application deadlines. We recommend taking the GRE at least 3–6 months before your application deadline to allow time for preparation and any retakes if needed.

The Right First Step
Don't Start with the Exam. Start with Preparation.

Before you worry about test dates and centers, the most important step is getting properly prepared. Sitting the GRE without strong preparation is a wasted attempt — and the exam costs money to retake.

When you enroll in a QA PrepRoom GRE class, we handle everything alongside you: we'll help you understand when to register, guide you through the process, and make sure you only sit the exam when you're genuinely ready to score well.

Common Questions

GRE Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our GRE class and the official exam — answered clearly.

Is the GRE required for all graduate programs?
Not all programs require it, but many competitive programs still require or strongly recommend GRE scores. We help you determine which exams are needed for your specific target schools and programs.
When should I take the GRE?
Ideally 3–6 months before your application deadline to allow time for preparation and potential retakes. Starting early gives you the best chance of achieving a score that matches your target programs.
How long is a GRE score valid?
GRE scores are valid for 5 years from your test date, giving you ample time to use them for multiple application cycles if needed.
Can I take the GRE more than once?
Yes. You can take the GRE up to 5 times within a 12-month period. Most universities will consider your highest score.
Do I need strong math skills for the GRE?
The Quantitative section focuses on high-school-level math (algebra, arithmetic, geometry) but tests problem-solving and reasoning at an advanced level. Our tutors teach you the strategies to solve GRE math efficiently, regardless of your starting point.
How long should I prepare for the GRE?
Most students need at least 2–3 months of consistent preparation, depending on their starting level. Our structured class covers everything you need within this timeline with regular practice and progress tracking.
Does a high GRE score guarantee admission?
No — graduate admissions also consider GPA, work experience, recommendation letters, personal statements, and research background. However, a strong GRE score significantly strengthens your overall application. QA PrepRoom also offers admissions consulting to help build your full application profile.
How do I contact QA PrepRoom to register?
You can register directly through our online form (linked above), send us a WhatsApp message at 059-3955699 or 020-814-3265, or email us at info@mypreproom.com. Our team will respond within 24 hours.
